Spring Training

I will be heading to Arizona to see a few Angel games next week. I won't be able to make any blog posts during that time, but I can leave comments on my blog. That's the way my iPhone works. I'll be posting my Spring training observations on this thread.

Got in to Arizona today. Travel from Baltimore was torture. The kind of day where I wonder if I'll enjoy the next 6 days enough to make up for the hell I went through.

I hate flying under the best of circumstances. Today was not the best. It started with security ordering my 11 month old baby girl to remove her shoes. Come on, even if she were a shoe bomber her tiny shoes wouldn't pack enough punch to light a cigarette. I was cramped all day, aggravating my back pain. We missed our connecting flight and had to scramble for plane.

On the bright side, the Delta employees were friendly and helpfull, and our luggage somehow wound up in the right place.

First game for me in Arizona: Angels hosting the A's in Tempe. We didn't have tickets going in, and we should have known better. Even most of the scalpers were looking for tickets. We did find a guy selling lawn tickets for $20 each, and I'm happy with the trade. With an 11 month old, we needed to stay out of the direct sun, and we found a tree to sit under for awhile.

The game sucked, with the Angels losing 8-1. Jered Weaver couldn't get out of the third inning, and the defense looked porous. Napoli did hit a homer, and Kowbell went 3 for 3, not a weak hit among them.

It was a beautiful Arizona day, so that part was cool. Having our little one opened up conversations with the parents of several new Angel fans.

Robert Goldman was there, selling copies of his book Once they were Angels. I got a copy look forward to reading it.
