Buying my Data
If you are interested in getting the Wins Above Replacement data in csv format, then just click here: baseballprojection.com
If you just want to check on a player now and then, no need to buy anything, just go to the site and look up his page. But if you want to do some sorting and calculations, this might be for you. The cost is $15 for the pitcher or hitter file, or $25 for both.

Does buying the current dataset through 2008 entitle people access to the 2009 update? If not I could just wait. Oh, and I guess that begs the question - do plan to continue to do yearly updates? (please say yes)
Will the download include all of the data in the player pages, ie the year to year totals and other breakdowns?
And somewhat embarassingly, I'm a real novice when it comes to importing data into Excel. Is the process of getting the data from the csv download into Excel idiot proof? Enquiring idiots want to know...
But thanks a bunch though. I'm really looking forward to digging through the data in terms of my draft studies.
Considering it. A few questions:
For clarity, what specifically are your conditions for posting the data? If I wanted to post data on my blog from the database for a specific team, or year, or some other sampling of players, is this ok? I'm guessing it is (within reason--obviously I'm not going to be posting 20 years of data or something) given that this data is already available on your website, but wanted to check.
Also, I'm curious about the format of the file. Does it include retrosheet playerID's and teamID's? I'm sure it includes year...
I'm also curious about whether you have plans for future updates/patches. I can do it myself using data from fangraphs or my own stuff, but it'd be nice to have yours because the methods would be consistent.
Thanks,
Justin
Crazy question, but I don't suppose I could sort players by what round they were drafted in, could I? If so, I'd consider it.
Erik, if you have a database of when folks were drafted, you could link it to this one to pull the WAR data. You could probably even get it to work by pulling the draft data from bref's draft pages, though matching up the players gets harder without playerID's in bref.

1. Philly, I haven't thought things through with that , but I do plan on doing updates (the 2009 update will probably come in December or January, when retrosheet posts the new data). I'm thinking a small fee, maybe $5, could be charged to people who buy the current file to get an updated set.
It's pretty easy to import into excel. Just open excel, then use the open function in excel to open the CSV file.
Justin, that sounds fine. I just don't want to see somebody taking the data and reproducing my whole site. Posting data for a few teams, or sampling of players as part of an article or story is A-OK.
The files include retro ID's, teams, year, and league. And all the columns you see on player pages.
No, this file includes no draft information. You'd have to find a way to link that in.
I think I've been fairly open about the methods used to calculate the ratings here. No reason anybody can't do it themselves starting with the retrosheet files. It took me more hours than I want to count to get everything together. So if anyone wants the full file, I'm giving you the option of paying $25 instead of spending 100+ hours on the task.
That works for me. I'm in.
A little disappointed about the Dec/Jan release data, but I guess that shows how spoiled we've become with the instant release of data at sites like b-ref, THT and FanGraphs.
Thanks again.
Random question (sorry if this isn't the place for it). Do you still have the Chone 2006 projections? I saw that they were not archived. I was hoping to use them for some SABR research I am doing. I'd be glad to pay/donate for them if cost is an issue.
Thanks for all the great work!
