Rally, how did you come to 5.25? Is your replacement level higher than mine? How many WAR do you have in the league?
We were at 4.8 last year, weren't we? Or did I get ahead of myself?

Do you figure that calculating $$ value directly from RAR, then WAR (or just WAR but they obviously are directly related) and then multiplying by a fixed $/win value is better than dividing estimated team revenue a la Win Shares and JC Bradbury's MRP using RAA? Sorry if that doesn't make sense. Basically I calculated RAR of everyone in the league, fielding and hitting and pitching (very, very similar to Justin ecxept in a few minor areas) then I calculated est. team revenue using team Run differential and Market size using JC's formula, and divided it between Pitching, Defense, and hitting similar to how Win shares would. Finally, and if you have JC's book this is basically what he does just with more accurate metrics, I took what an average player would generate given their playing time and added a player's revenue based on his production below or above average. I also did this for all players if they were on a league average team so we can compare, but it doesn't make a huge difference. The difference between this way and the standard way is that a Replacement player, no matter how much they played, would be credited with $0 million dollars. Using the alternative method, a guy like Ryan Freel whose hitting(forget fielding for a moment) was worth within about .1 RAR, would be credited with about $2 mil because even though he was below average, he "worked" for a big portion of the team's PA so he gets credit for that. Also, the normal way is based on RAR while JC's is based on RAA and I (JC doesn't use fielding) give different weights to fielding and hitting. Do you see a fundamental superior here?
Anyway, using the method you use, $5.25m/WAR, I figure Pujols was worth almost exactly $52.5m, about 79 RAR with the bat and 21 with the glove. However, with JC's basic method, I calculated that Pujols' bat was worth $20 million and glove worth about $7 million, which is a little more than half what the basic RAR-WAR-$AR gave him.
I find this stuff very interesting, and I apologize if I bored you. I was just wondering if you see any major difference between the methods and their credibility, or maybe in the end they're just measuring different things? I'm no WAR/$AR expert. Thanks.
I should have used 4.8 million per win, but that doesn't change the rankings, just multiply everyone by .9
It's a simple formula, just take total runs over replacement, batting, fielding, position, baserunning if you have it (I don't yet). Divide by 10 to get wins, multiply by $ per win.
I'm not sure what JC's method is. If he has Pujols at only 27, then I don't think it's right.
I define replacement level as 20 runs worse than league average per 150 games played. My batting runs above average used in these examples are both park and league adjusted. (AL is better than NL)
